Lindsay High School

Lindsay Public Schools

The Lindsay Public School System has a tradition of excellence in both academic and co-curricular pursuits. In 1954 the Lindsay Public School System became a pioneer in setting our standards beyond those required by the state when we became one of the first ten schools in Oklahoma to achieve total accreditation by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, a rigorous monitor of school achievement throughout the United States. To this day, Lindsay Schools maintain this tradition at all our levels, from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. In recognition of large excellence, our school was named last year to a list of the top ten schools in our state News and World Report magazine.

As a result of our dedication to high standards, Lindsay students have annually been recognized among the top academic students in the state. Our high school academic teams have reached the state finals of the Academic Bowl Competition nine times, and twelve of our LHS studnts have been named Academic Bowl All-Staters. In addition, twelve of our students (in competition with students from all classes of school --- both large and small) have been selected as Academic All-Staters, the highest academic honor bestowed upon high school students in the state.

Through the foresight of earlier educators and current practice, our school is heavily involved in the Renaissance Reading Program. Consistently, Lindsay Schools receive Master School Distinction in this proven, highly successful reading program.

To describe the accomplishments of our FFA program would require long and lengthy lists of students who achieve at high levels. Our local FFA chapter was named in 2014 as a State Superior Three Star Chapter. Local FFA students are enrolled in Future Teach Ag-Ed academies to insure the quality of tomorrow’s agriculture- related teachers, qualifying these students for scholarships from Oklahoma State University when they enter the agriculture education program at OSU. FFA students in Lindsay have received State FFA degrees, participate in speech competitions, show animals at the local, county, state, and national levels, and compete in land judging contests. In fact, the local FFA chapter participates in all opportunities afforded by the FFA program.

Our fine arts program is another outlet for student expression. Our art department sends students to art competitions throughout the state. The Lindsay Band program has grown by leaps and bounds. As a result of growth and dedication, the Lindsay High School Band was the 2013 Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Class 2A State Champion Marching Band. In addition, our vocal students compete in all regional and state contests and consistently receive high marks.

Athletically, Lindsay Schools are known throughout the state for excellence in all sports. In recent history, our cross country girl’s team qualified for the state meet in 2014, our high school football team has made it deep into the playoffs during the past decade, going all all the way to state semi-finalsin 2011, and our high school girl’s basketball team re-appeared in the state tournament in 2013.

The high school cheer team competed in the 2014 state competition at the Lloyd Noble Arena in Norman. Track individuals and teams compete in the state track meet each spring, and our softball, baseball, and golf programs advance in playoff opportunities regularly. However, in addition to athletic prowess, our athletes view themselves first as scholars and annually rank among the state’s best scholar athletes.

While no one can predict the future, we know that Lindsay School System is headed in a positive direction because of the evident successes of our students, and our mission statement summarizes our goal for student success: “Empowering all students for success in an ever-changing world.” The present is a challenging but exciting time to be in education. We are thankful to serve the students of our community and welcome the aid of our patrons as we strive for excellence in education here in our school system.
